Abstract

This article is dedicated to a historiographical research of the first uniformed supporters' associations in Rio Grande do Sul, which began in 1940 in the city of Porto Alegre. The state was a pioneer in collective associations of organized fans, emerging during the Estado Novo period (1937-1945), in which they followed the directives of the government and club departments. The clubs we'll be discussing in this article are: Sport Club Internacional's Department of Cooperation and Propaganda; Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense's Gremista Fan Department and Grêmio Esportivo Renner's Fan Department. In this way, these uniformed supporters have changed the aesthetics and performances in the stands, innovating and increasingly popularizing cheering and soccer itself.
