Abstract

The article examined the Sport Club Mackenzie, founded in Meier, Rio de Janeiro, considering its participation in Rio de Janeiro football between 1914 and 1932. We assumed that the representation of the club as reported in newspapers had little to do with the territorialization of its football practices in Meier. We worked with periodicals and maps of Rio de Janeiro, considered as testimonies and discourses produced at a given time, to be approached serially. We concluded that Mackenzie's travels around Rio de Janeiro to play football matches corresponded, in the historical period studied, to the economic difficulties of installing its sports venue (stadium).
