Abstract

The Almir Nelson de Almeida Gymnasium, known as Tarumã Gymnasium, has become a place of memory in Curitiba. The objective of this study is to investigate the history of the Tarumã Gymnasium from 1953 to the early 2000s. The historiographical research was conducted using different sources, which were subjected to documentary analysis. When reconstructing the history of the gymnasium, the following moments were identified: conception in 1953 to celebrate the centenary of the political emancipation of Paraná; incorporation of the Paraná School of Physical Education and Sports in the 1960s; inauguration of the gymnasium in 1965; national prominence with the Rexona team, which competed in the Women's Volleyball Super League.
