MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION AND EVALUATION PROCEDURES

Submitted manuscripts, since according to the standards for publication described below, will be sent to two ad hoc consultants or members of the Editorial Board for blind review. Two favorable opinions indicate final acceptance. In case of conflicting opinions, a third one shall be sought.

Manuscripts to be evaluated aiming at publishing should be submitted exclusively through the internet:

http://submission-pepsic.scielo.br/index.php/arbp

Registering in the link above is the first step to be taken. In the case of articles with multiple authors, the names of all authors should be necessarily included in submission metadata. The registration of the authors must respond to the written order: the order appearing in the submission will be respected in the publication, in case of acceptance of the article, and there will be no changes afterwards. In order to include more than one author, click on “add author” and the field will be available to be filled.

Every single text submitted to the journal must be accompanied by a letter signed by all authors, where the intention of submission or resubmission of the work for publication and statement of responsibility for the ethical aspects and authorship of the work is made clear. Besides, it must be stated that the work neither has ever been presented in full in any other media, nor is under evaluation by another journal. That letter must also contain authorization for reformulation of language, if needed, in order to meet the journal's standards. Authors should disclose conflicts of interest (professional, financial, direct or indirect benefits) that may influence the research results. Similarly, the authors must disclose all funding sources involved in the work. They must also ensure that privacy and anonymity of those involved were respected. All complementary documents must be attached by electronic publishing, as image or text file.

Articles resulting from research involving human beings and/or relating to interventions (diagnostic or therapeutic) must be accompanied by a copy of the Research Ethics Committee letter of approval of the host institution or other entity accredited by the National Health Council, in accordance with Resolution 196/96 of the aforementioned Committee. In texts containing data from clinical cases, it is necessary to obtain a Letter of Consent. These documents must be attached in the field “add additional document” in the metadata.

This journal uses a double-blind review process, therefore preserving the identity of authors and consultants. Authors should use all possible means to prevent authorship identification of the manuscript.

Manuscripts submitted will initially be considered by the Editorial Board. If not suited to the standards or scope of the journal, they will be excluded from the system and their authors informed. Otherwise they will be forwarded to peer review, according to the following procedures:

1. Referral to two ad hoc consultants or two members of the Editorial Board for blind review.
2. Reception of opinions, with recommendation for acceptance (with or without modifications) or refusal. In the case of recommendation with modifications, authors will be notified of the suggestions as soon as possible (the opinions will be made available to the authors, preserving the consultants' identities).
3. Modifications made by the authors must be included in a different color or in bold in the revised manuscripts.
4. Revised manuscripts will be subjected to evaluation by the Editorial Board who will decide, based on the recommendations of the consultants, between acceptance for publication, the need for additional review or refusal of the manuscript. If accepted for publication, the Editorial Board reserves the right to make minor changes for purposes of standardization according to the editorial parameters of the journal.
5. The final decision regarding whether or not to publish the manuscript is always the Editorial Board's. .
6. The authors of the papers are entirely responsible for their content.
