Abstract

This article investigates the possibility of the exhibition as a school, beyond the nature of presentation and representation. The exhibition space is examined as a kind of laboratory for
artistic practices, based on two historical cases: the This is Tomorrow exhibition held at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, in 1956, and the 6th Jovem Arte Contemporânea held at Museu
de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo in 1972. Through these specific cases, the article explores the relationship between art and education, from the perspective of the history
of exhibitions and curating. The exhibition is a device for the confluence of pedagogical practices and art. The exhibition as a school, in the role of agency between fields, formulates another relationship between art and the public, reaffirming the common space between art and education.
