The current study analyses how “Farsas” and “O réu Tadeu” by Eça de Queirós, narratives written in his youth, are “reused” in the writer’s later texts. In order to do so, we use the ideas of motif, theme, topoi, and intertextuality. The theoretical framework mentions C. Segre (1999), E. R. Curtius (2013), U. Eco (1976), J. Kristeva (2005), R. Barthes (2004), among other authors. In this sense, the concept of patchwork in queirosian texts becomes key, because new textual textures are achieved based on previous literary works. In that context, the older textual “pieces” gain different usages and new meanings when read in unison with other works by Queirós.
