A ‘mente' e o homicídio: A gestão da violência no tráfico de drogas em São Paulo

Resumo

Este artigo examina as táticas proporcionadoras da expansão da influência do Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) e sua relação com a gestão da violência no ambiente do tráfico de drogas. Apresento os resultados de uma etnografia realizada em dois bairros da periferia de São Paulo. Descrevo o cotidiano de relações econômicas e políticas no contexto específico de tráfico e discuto as concepções nativas sobre as características definidoras do “traficante”, o lugar da violência e da inteligência na gestão dos pontos de venda e a difusão do PCC como o poder orientador do crime. Verifico como o recurso à noção nativa de “mente” compõe um contexto geracional que levou à redução dos índices de homicídios nesses locais nos anos 2000.

The article The ‘Mind' and Homicide: Violence Man­agement in Drug Trafficking in São Paulo examines the tactics that have led to the increased influence of the PCC and its relation with violence management in the sphere of drug trafficking. The text presents the results of an ethnographic survey conducted in two suburban districts of São Paulo. I describe the everyday experience of economic and political relations in the specific setting of drug trafficking and discuss native notions regarding the defining characteristics of the “dealer”, the place of violence and intelligence in managing drug sales points and the diffusion of the PCC as the guiding power behind crime. I verify how resorting to the native notion of “mind” in this environment forms a generational context which led to reduced homicide rates in these places in the 2000s.
