“Conservation and Restoration in the Amazon of Maranhão: Advances from the First Cycle of Long-Term Ecological Research in the Gurupi Biological Reserve”

 

Dear Researcher,

We have great satisfaction to invite you to contribute to the special edition of Oecologia Australis entitled “Conservation and Restoration in the Amazon of Maranhão: Advances from the First Cycle of Long-Term Ecological Research in the Gurupi Biological Reserve”.

This special edition aims to disseminate and integrate the scientific, methodological, and applied advances achieved during the first cycle of the Long-Term Ecological Research Program at the Gurupi Biological Reserve (MA). Based on the experiences of the Gurupi Long-Term Ecological Research Program, we seek to gather contributions that broaden the understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to biodiversity, conservation, ecological restoration, and management of landscapes highly pressured by habitat loss.

Manuscripts addressing the topics bellow are welcome:

  • Structure and functioning of fragmented Amazonian ecosystems;
  • Long-term monitoring and ecological indicators;
  • Connectivity and forest regeneration;
  • Interactions between biodiversity, ecosystem services, and local communities;
  • Participatory restoration and conservation strategies;
  • Interdisciplinary approaches that integrate science, public policies, and traditional knowledge.
  • Scientific communication and dissemination carried out within the scope of the Gurupi PELD.

 

Oecologia Australis (OA) is an international open-access, peer-reviewed journal committed to promoting the exchange of knowledge in Ecology and related fields. Original articles, reviews, brief communications, and opinions in Portuguese, English, or Spanish are accepted.

 

Interested authors should send a provisional title, author list, and a brief abstract of the manuscript to the email: peldgurupirebio@gmail.com as soon as possible. The deadline for submitting the complete manuscript is February 20, 2026, and the edition is expected to be published in December 2026.

We count on your contribution to this special edition, which aims to strengthen scientific production on the Amazon region of Maranhão and highlight the strategic role of the Gurupi PELD in the conservation and restoration of Amazonian ecosystems.
