Una Biological Reserve: biodiversity and ecological research in a hotpoint of the Atlantic Forest

Dear researcher,

We would like to invite you to contribute to the special edition of the Oecologia Australis, entitled “Una Biological Reserve: biodiversity and ecological research in a hotpoint of the Atlantic Forest”.

The goal of this edition is to disseminate the scientific advances on the biodiversity of one of the largest protected areas of southern Bahia – the Una Biological Reserve. This region is widely recognized as a hotpoint within the Atlantic Forest hotspot, i. e., harboring a great number of endemic species, high species richness but elevated degradation levels. In this context, understanding the role of a large, protected area in safeguarding wildlife species in this region is vital to enhance conservation efforts towards biodiversity conservation.

From this perspective, we would like to provide the first compilation of scientific research at the Una Biological Reserve, providing data on species occurrence and biodiversity patterns for a wide range of taxonomic groups, in addition to exploring the management efforts required to enhance biodiversity conservation at the regional level.

Oecologia Australis (OA) is an open access, peer-reviewed international journal committed to facilitating global research and information exchange in Ecology and related disciplines. We welcome original articles, opinions, scientific reviews, and short communications in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. For detailed submission guidelines and additional information, please visit https://revistas.ufrj.br/index.php/oa/index.

If you accept this invitation, we kindly request that you provide a tentative title for your manuscript, along with the list of authors and a brief summary of the article, to mbsouza@uesc.br until 20th June 2026. The deadline for full manuscript submission is March 31st 2027, and the Special edition is scheduled for publication in December 2027.
