EDITORIAL: SPECIAL ISSUE ON ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
Keywords:
Environmental impacts, editorialAbstract
It is foreseen by law to identify and to assess potential impacts on the environment arising from any type of enterprise, from its implementation to its effective operation, transcribed in technical reports known as Environmental Impact Studies (EIAs, acronym in Brazilian Portuguese). However, the information within these reports is either restricted to the supervisory organs or is not easily available to academia and society. In addition, many environmental impact studies are not comparable to each other as they do not follow standardized methodologies even when objectifying the same infrastructure project.
Aiming to propagate results and data from environmental impact studies in Brazil, as well as standardizing sampling methods, identification of impacts and mitigation strategies, we are launching a special issue in "Oecologia Australis" focusing on Environmental Impacts. We did not restrict themes or groups. Thus, the present volume brings contributions on the impacts caused by wind farms, roadway paving, hydroelectric dams, as well as hunting, deforestation, and introduction of exotic species in several regions of Brazil.
