Several aspects of the ecology of C. major are reviewed, including palaeoecology, burrow morphology, behaviour associated to burrow construction and defense, reproductive cycle, spatial and temporal structure of populations. The importance of C. major in sheltered sandy beaches macrofauna and the effect of human activity (pollution, fishery) on populations are also discussed.
