Ecological notes on an species of Berosus Leach, 1817 (Coleoptera: Hydrophilidae) in a sand dune marsh at Iittoral of Rio de Janeiro State

Abstract

Based on collections rnade since 1986 in Brejo-canal de ltuipuaçu, a temporary marsh at Restinga de Maricá, RJ, Brazil, some aspects on the ecology of Berosus sp. were studied. From January 1987 to February 1988 the secundary production was 0.47 g/m².year (dry weight). About 71 % of the adults were collected during the Summer, Fibres and other plant materials. algae, and spicules of Porifera were found in the diet of this species. Water level variation and pH were correlated of abundance of Berosus sp. in Maricá.
