Abstract

The aim of this research was to  investigate the functional feeding groups (shredders, collectors, grazer-scrapers and predators) of benthic macroinvertebrate communities of "igarapés" Saracá, Caranã, Água Fria and a section of Trombetas river influenced by the activities of a bauxite mine in Porto Trombetas, Pará, Brazil (1°25' and 1°35' S and 56°15' and 56°25' W). The samples were taken on dry and rainy seasons of the years 1994 and 1995 on three sample stations in each ecosystem. The results obtained contribute for the best knowledgement of benthic macroinvertebrate community structure on those four ecosystems.
