Abstract

In the past decades, studies on interaction networks may have zoomed in too much on arbitrary subsets of ecological communities. Consequently, the current “nestedness paradigm” is biased towards restricted taxonomic groups. This bias leads to a myopic understanding of ecological functions and ecosystem services, with serious consequences for basic and applied ecology.
