OPTIMAL FORAGING THEORY: PREMISES AND CRITIQUES FROM BIRD STUDIES
Keywords:
Energy maximization, decision, fitnessAbstract
The present revision discusses the theoretical premises of the optimal foraging theory proposed by MacArthur and Pianka (1996) based on models of each relevant factor to the foraging behavior. Examples of model application with birds are described and the main critiques to the theory are presented.
