EVALUATION OF THE IMPACTS CAUSED BY ORGANIC SEWER DISCHARGES IN SOME WATER BODIES OF RIO CLARO (SÃO PAULO)

Abstract

This paper details a characterization of some water bodies of Rio Claro (S.P.) with the goal of evaluating the impacts caused by organic sewer discharges, and to verify those variables which are more efficient in impact identification. Water samples were taken at seven stations located in urban zone of Rio Claro from 1988 through 1991. Strong alterations in the physical and chemical parameters of the river were found. Alkalinity had the strongest loading in principal component ordination of sampling stations.
