Author Guidelines
The Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Music receives and continuously evaluates the works sent for publication through the anonymous evaluation system, with external reviewers, so that at the end of an edition, the works still under evaluation are already being considered for the next issue (except for thematic dossiers).
Articles submitted to the Brazilian Journal of Music must follow the standards listed below, and any standardization of content regarding formatting, citation and referencing here not included should consider the ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Norms) regulations:
- The text must be unpublished and focus on issues related to the aforementioned domains or areas subject to specific thematic calls.
- The text can be presented in Portuguese, English or Spanish and must be sent in DOC, DOCX, ODT or RTF formats.
- At the top of the home page, the following header should be included:
I submit the article entitled "..." for consideration by the Editorial Board of Brazilian Journal of Music. In case of approval, I authorize electronic publication (online) on the journal's OJS (Open Journal System) platform (https://revistas.ufrj.br/index.php/rbm/).

(Add more authors if necessary) - Following the header, the author (s) must include a synopsis of his professional performance or academic training of up to 100 words, in the following order: institutional affiliation, title (from highest to lowest), ORCID, other information about qualification and professional relevant activities, main publications, awards and honorary titles.
- The text should be between 6,000 and 12,000 words (not including abstract, figures, tables, notes and bibliographic references).
- The text must be sent in the following format: A4 size pages, with 2.5 cm margins and justified alignment.
- The text must contain an abstractin the language in which it is presented, with up to 150 words and the indication of three to six keywords edited below the synopsis about the author, followed by a title in English. Papers written in English must present an abstract and keywords in Portuguese, immediately after abstract and keywords.
- Pre-textual elements (header, synopsis, abstract, keywords, resumo and palavras-chave), footnotes and figure captions must be edited in Times New Roman typeface, size 10, simple spacing and justified alignment. The body of the text and the bibliographic references must be edited with the same font, size 12, 1.5 spacing and justified alignment.
- Indirect citations must be indicated in the text by the author-date system, in accordance with the recommended by ABNT (NBR-10520) standards, with the caveat that the surname(s) of the author(s) cited must always appear with first letter capitals.
- Bibliographic references must be presented in alphabetical order at the end of the text, in accordance with ABNT norms (NBR-6023); do not use a dash when the author and/or title is repeated.
- Text notes should be inserted as “footnotes”.
- Images, such as illustrations, musical examples, tables, figures, pictures etc. must be inserted in the body of the text as figure (resolution of 300 dpi) and identified at the bottom with the appropriate numbering and caption that synthetically expresses the meaning of the information gathered there. After approval of the text for publication, the images must be sent separately in individual files in PDF format (300 dpi resolution or higher) and named according to the order of entry in the text. For example: fig_1.pdf; fig_2.pdf; fig_3.pdf; tableau_1.pdf; tableau_2.pdf etc.
- Permission to reproduce images, such as illustrations, musical texts, tables, figures, etc. is under the responsibility of the author.
The Brazilian Journal of Music is interested in publishing reviews about books, CDs, DVDs, scores, hypermedia products and other recent publications (last 5 years) of interest to the area. Reviews should offer a critical appraisal of the contribution of the work or set of works to the development of the relevant area or field of study - considering all the aforementioned standards and not exceeding 6,000 words.
The Editorial Board reserves the right to make in the texts all the formal modifications necessary to fit the magazine's graphic design. The approval of the article is entirely the responsibility of the Editorial Board, after consulting the ad hoc referees. The content of the published texts, as well as the accuracy of the information provided by the author(s), are the sole responsibility of him (these) and do not express the opinion of the Editors or the Editorial Board of the Brazilian Journal of Music.
