Visual listening and real-time sound production in audiovisual performances
Abstract
In this paper, I approach the term visual listening to reflect on the real time audiovisual performances’s sound production. Visual listening relates to the sound image that is formed in our mind when viewing an object, a person, an abstract image or anything else. I discuss here the relationship between visual listening and open sound production (in real time) in audiovisual performances. I approach concepts related to modes, qualities and types of listening and the idea of visual and sound image according to Schaeffer (1993), Chion (2012), Iazzetta (2016), Caesar (2012), Rice (2015) and Douglas (1999).
Keywords
Visual listening. Real time sound production. Audiovisual performance.
