Há poetas gnósticos? Algumas observações sobre modernidade e misticismo; rebelião e pensamento arcaico

Resumo

O presente ensaio retoma o que já escrevi sobre gnosticismo e poesia, e sobre poetas gnósticos. Examina o trânsito entre doutrinas aparentemente opostas, a gnose pessimista e aquela otimista do Corpus Hermeticum. Reconhece que há mais poetas gnósticos; que deveria ter sido dada mais atenção a Walt Whitman, entre outros. Apresenta a hipótese de que decadentistas, como Swinburne, são intrinsecamente gnósticos.

Abstract: This paper resumes what I have written about Gnosticism and poetry, and about gnostic poets. Examines the communication between seemingly opposing doctrines, the pessimist gnosis and that optimistic from Corpus Hermeticum. It recognizes that there are more gnostic poets; that I should have given more attention to Walt Whitman, among others. Presents the hypothesis that decadents, like Swinburne, are inherently Gnostics.
