Disponibiliza-se aqui uma breve apresentação e tradução do prefácio e da introdução da obra Pessimismo no passado e no presente de Olga Plümacher. No referido livro, que situa-se no contexto do Pessimismusstreit e conta com leitores influentes, a filósofa realiza um comentário histórico e crítico do pessimismo. Dedicada a tal tarefa, Plümacher oferece instigantes interpretações filosóficas acerca do pessimismo enquanto impulso regente do desenvolvimento cultural humano.
