Abstract

This article discusses the production of contemporary urban space based on the investigation of recent transformations in the Altiplano Cabo Branco borough of João Pessoa, the state capital of Paraíba. In recent years this neighborhood has been the target of intense real estate production after changes in local land use legislation concerning environmental and landscape patrimony. The research was undertaken from the point of view of the production of space and its agents investigating land use regulation. Incorporation registers and housing licenses were analyzed and the real estate market was researched. It was found that an eminently local process triggered a wider process of urban restructuring beyond the scale of the neighborhood and its specific real estate production reaching the scale of the whole city.
