Abstract

This article proposes a theoretical and methodological discussion on Ethnogeomorphology, geographic and ethnographic approach, aimed at understanding how the farmers of traditional culture understand the geomorphological processes, how they use this knowledge to manage the environment in which they live (especially knowledge about soil erosion, gravitational mass movements and siltation in relation to subsistence crops and livestock) and whether and how they use this knowledge to some kind of geomorphic taxonomy. For this, a methodological approach is presented to guide the unveiling, understanding, and systematization, science-based, a whole set of theories and practices relating to the environment, arising from an empirical experimentation, and helps to guide the insertion and the development of research with these communities. This methodological proposition can be used to support public policies for environmental management, from the perspective of local development, as well as basic education focused on understanding the ways and geomorphic processes, assuming that the information that people have about their environment, and the way they categorize this information will influence their behavior and their learning about him.
