The Atomism of Leucippus and Democritus is implicitly used, in quite a few dialogues of Plato, as an important scientific paradigm to be problematized, criticized or reutilized. My focus here is in analysing the contribution of Atomism to the Platonic Philosophy of Language present in Sophist. The hypothesis to be developed is that the core of the linguistic reflections found in the aforementioned dialogue begins with an important criticism to the doctrine of Atomism.References
