Abstract

The hellenistic period set between the time of the great expedition of Alexander the Great (334-323 b.C.) and the conquest of Egypt by the Romans (30 b.C.). This historical moment produced deep transformations in the Greek culture. The philosophical schools flourishing at the time were faced with the task of showing man the possibility of attaining eudaimonía, a man who was surrounded by political, social and cultural crises and saw the loss of old established values and beliefs. The aim of this paper is to show that the flourishment of human life was not centered on man's taking part in public life, but rather on his own internal life.
