Abstract

The article discusses the relationship between language and indirect meaning in Merleau-Ponty, highlighting the importance of language as a mode of understanding the relationship between subjectivity and the world. Merleau-Ponty proposes a phenomenological approach to language, emphasizing its expressive power, which goes beyond mere representation, and, especially with literature, can lead to a unique and revealing experience where the reader and the book influence each other. The interaction between subject and object in reading reveals a reciprocity of meaning that will then be explained by the systematic and expressive, structural and phenomenological conception of language at work there.
