Abstract

The moment of the existence in French philosophy is marked by issues of both French philosophy and French society, problems that date back to the period of the Third Republic and unfold through the decades in which Merleau-Ponty, Sartre and Beauvoir develop their work. This article seeks to bring light to the scenario inhabited by the existential generation, its relationship with tradition, the philosophies it mobilizes, aiming to expose the emergence of existentialist thought in French territory, in addition to certain elements that are central to the movement, such as the notion of extended reason and the search for the concrete in philosophy.
