Abstract

This article explores the relationship between attention and love in promoting community cohesion. It argues that love is an epistemic virtue, requiring responsibility and attention to be awakened and applied collectively. Using the concepts of top-down and bottom-up attention, the study investigates how these processes influence perception and love. The research draws on the works of Carolyn Dicey Jennings, Bell Hooks, and Iris Murdoch, who discuss the role of attention and love in the construction of knowledge. Jennings advocates attention as perceptual knowledge, while Hooks and Murdoch highlight love as a central element in morality and epistemology. The conclusion points to the need to incorporate love into epistemology, promoting its collective application as an instrument against injustices.

Bachelor's in Law from the Faculty of Law of Sete Lagoas (1999), Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the Claretian University Center (2019). Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy – Faculty of Philosophy from  Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG (2022). Postgraduate in Penal Sciences from the Public Prosecutor’s Foundation of Minas Gerais and Postgraduate in Process: Great Transformations from the University of Santa Catarina in partnership with the LFG course; Postgraduate in State Law from Anhanguera University in partnership with the LFG course. Member of several administrative disciplinary process committees; Holds the position of Judicial Analyst in the Secretariat of the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais. Currently holds the position of Chief Legal Advisor in the Office of a Federal Judge Member of the Regional Federal Electoral Court.
