POR QUE NOS FLA X FLUS ERA UM “AI JESUS”? A CONSTRUÇÃO DA RIVALIDADE ENTRE FLAMENGO E FLUMINENSE E O IDEÁRIO DA IDENTIDADE NACIONAL BRASILEIRA

Abstract

Em 1963, Flamengo e Fluminense disputaram a partida de futebol entre clubes com o maior público da história do Brasil. Em campo, estava em jogo mais do que a decisão do campeonato da cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Símbolos e identidades sociais correntes permeavam as disputas simbólicas que eram divulgadas pela imprensa esportiva. Neste artigo, meu objetivo é demonstrar como Nelson Rodrigues e Mario Filho, maiores expoentes da crônica esportiva brasileira, fizeram do clássico mais do que um embate desportivo. Na direção do Jornal dos Sports, os dois jornalistas transformaram o Fla x Flu na metáfora síntese da identidade nacional brasileira.

Why in Fla x Flus was an "ai Jesus"? The construction of the rivality between Flamengo and Fluminense and ideas of Brazilian national identity

Abstract: In 1963, Flamengo and Fluminense played a football match between clubs with the largest audience in history. In the field, more than a game was in contest. Symbols and current social identities permeated the symbolic disputes that were released by the sports press. In this article, my target is to demonstrate how Nelson and Mario Rodrigues Filho, greatest exponents of Brazilian sports chronicle, made the game more than a sporting confrontation. With the Journal of Sports, the two journalists turned the Fla x Flu the metaphor of the Brazilian national identity.
