Author Guidelines

Recorde: Revista Brasileira de História do Esporte is a biannual publication that accepts articles and reviews on a rolling basis in Portuguese, Spanish, English, and French. The journal's editorial policy prioritizes articles that present original research results with first-hand empirical evidence. Occasionally, theoretical essays or literature reviews may be accepted for publication. The thematic scope of Recorde includes sports, leisure, gymnastics, capoeira, dance, physical education, and other institutionalized bodily practices.

Submission Guidelines

  • By submitting a manuscript to Recorde, the author(s) agree to transfer the publication rights to the journal while retaining full responsibility for any other issues affecting the article. However, the author(s) maintain the right to republish the article in other academic dissemination channels without prior authorization, provided that its initial publication in Recorde is acknowledged.

  • The use of the Recorde template is mandatory for manuscript submission on the platform. Submissions that do not conform to this format will be rejected by the editorial team. To access the template, click here.

  • At the discretion of the author(s), the article may be accompanied by a letter justifying its relevance and originality.

  • All submitted articles undergo an initial review by the Editorial Committee. If recommended by the Committee, the article will be evaluated by one or two anonymous reviewers under a double-blind peer review system. Articles will be assessed based on the following criteria: adherence to guidelines, consistency and coherence of arguments, contribution to historical studies, and originality. In cases of divergence or doubts regarding the merit or relevance of the publication, a second or third reviewer may be consulted. Authors may be required to make revisions based on the reviewers’ and Editorial Committee’s recommendations. The final decision to accept or reject a submission rests with the Editorial Committee.

Formatting Requirements

  • The submission file must be in Word for Windows 6.0 or later, using Bookman Old Style font, size 12, A4 paper size, 3 cm margins, and 1.5 line spacing.

  • The article or review must follow this structure:
    a) Title of the paper
    b) Abstract with keywords in Portuguese
    c) Title and abstract with keywords in English
    d) Title and abstract with keywords in Spanish
    e) Main text
    f) References

  • The minimum word count for articles is 5,000 words, and the maximum is 10,000 words. For reviews, the limit is 3,000 words. In cases where articles or reviews exceed these limits, prior consultation with the Editorial Committee is required.

  • Each abstract (in Portuguese, English, and Spanish) must not exceed 120 words and must be followed by three keywords in the respective languages.

  • Subheadings within the article should be in bold, preferably without numbering.

  • Italics should be used for emphasis within the text—bold and underlining should not be used, except for active hyperlinks (URLs).

  • Figures and tables must be embedded within the text rather than placed at the end of the document or as attachments.

  • The accuracy of citations and bibliographic references, as well as grammatical and orthographic review, is the sole responsibility of the author(s).

  • Footnotes should be used exclusively for explanatory notes, additional information, or primary source references, which do not need to be included in the final reference list but must follow ABNT standards.

  • Authors are responsible for grammatical accuracy. The editors reserve the right to make formatting adjustments.

Citation and Referencing Guidelines

  • Citations must follow ABNT standards and use the “author, date” system rather than footnotes for references. The cited reference must be included in the final reference list. Only references cited in the text should appear in the reference list. Below are examples of common citation formats:
