Abstract

O artigo analisa a pintura São Sigfrido batiza o povo em Småland realizada em 1866 pelo sueco Johan Blackstadius, especialmente os conteúdos envolvendo a religiosidade medieval e temas históricos, como os Vikings e a sua cristianização. Utilizamos como referencial teórico os estudos de História Cultural das imagens e como metodologia de análise as pesquisas sobre cultura visual. Procuramos também perceber esta pintura dentro dos padrões gerais de recepção de temas nórdicos medievais pela arte do século XIX.

Biografia autore

Johnni Langer, UFPB

Professor Assistente II na UFPB. Possui Pós-Doutoramento em História Medieval pela USP (2006-2007). Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: história e cultura na Era Viking e na Escandinávia Medieval, Mitologia nórdica, sagas islandesas, Literatura nórdica medieval, história do paganismo escandinavo, História da Arqueologia e Astronomia, Arqueoastronomia e Etnoastronomia da Escandinávia Medieval, recepção da Mitologia Nórdica nas artes modernas. Publicou em revistas acadêmicas da Suécia, Inglaterra, França, Rússia, Portugal, Espanha, Itália, Argentina e em dezenas de periódicos brasileiros. É coordenador do Núcleo de Estudos Vikings e Escandinavos (neve2012.blogspot.com.br). Atualmente é professor do Programa de Pós Graduação em Ciências das Religiões da UFPB (Mestrado e Doutorado). É organizador dos livros Dicionário de História e Cultura da Era Viking (Hedra, 2017), Desvendando os vikings (Idéia, 2016) e Dicionário de Mitologia Nórdica (Hedra, 2015), Deuses, xamãs e animais: ensaios de Mitologia Nórdica (UFPB, 2018) e autor dos livros O sagrado nórdico: mitos e crenças da Escandinávia Medieval (UFPB, 2018), Na trilha dos vikings (UFPB, 2015), Fé Nórdica (UFPB, 2015) e Deuses, monstros, heróis (UNB, 2009). É editor chefe do periódico Scandia Journal of Medieval Norse Studies.
