Abstract

This essay focuses on the analysis of performative works produced in the 1970s by the Brazilian artists Iole de Freitas, Letícia Parente and Sonia Andrade. Since these artists transform everyday spaces into a place of work and artistic production, they challenge the modern division between public and private, as well as social constructions of gender. In an expressive and urgent way, the use they make of photographic and videographic devices reveals experiences that involve their bodies and the political situation of the country.
