Abstract
This paper analyzes the experiences of young people in the Projeto Proteção de Jovens em Território Vulnerável (Protejo), implemented in 2019 in the Jardim Carapina neighborhood, on the outskirts of the Greater Vitória Metropolitan Area, Espírito Santo. Starting from a qualitative methodology, it was understood that the project, based on the premises of citizen security, aims to prevent violence that affects young people in urban peripheries through “social” actions and the promotion of citizenship. However, the participants' experiences indicate a long distance between the project's objectives and its practices, which was conceived in terms of a “pedagogy of precariousness”.
