Keywords:
incarceration, punishment, regression models, ideology, Brazilian statesAbstract
The paper analyzed the main variables correlated with incarceration rates in the Brazilian states. For the first time in Brazilian literature, we analysed the impact of the political position of the governors in the state punishment. Methodologically, an inferential approach was done, promoting the dialogue between classical statistics and the Bayesian approach. Generalized linear and multiple regression models were tested, the best ones confirmed the significant association between the rate of urbanization or development, proportion of young people in the population, vote in Dilma and Gini Index with incarceration rates.Downloads
