Of Grants and Penalties: Brazilian Way of Capitalism, Labor and Punishment

The article examines at first in which extent notorious foreign critical theorizations about massive punishment -- in all of its dimensions - can function as useful tools to comprehend the Brazilian actual reality. Next, I deal with peculiarities of our social formation with the objective of improving the potential of that theoretical constructs to analyze our context. In the end I bring up discussions about the permanence in punishment of the so-called “grant ideology”, produced and stabilized in the context of Vargas populism.
