Abstract

The aim of the article is to understand one of the facets of military police violence through of that we have come to call a “military police distinction”. We take a qualitative approach to the episode of the British Black Mirror series titled “Men Against Fire” where a soldier that comes to understand the reason why he pursues the social excluded: the war culture imposed by his profession. So, what is highlighted is the “sense of distinction”, built by institutional socialization processes and established by the internalization of the military ethos. The police officers come to see themselves as different from other members of society.

Pós-doutorando em direitos humanos pelo Núcleo de Cidadania e Direitos Humanos (NCDH) da Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB, João Pessoa, Brasil). É doutor e mestre pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia (PPGS) da UFPB. Possui graduação em segurança pública pelo Centro de Ensino da Polícia Militar da Paraíba (CEPMPB, João Pessoa, Brasil).
