Between Collective Abysses and Private Paradises: The Landscape in the Imagination of Barra da Tijuca
Keywords:
landscape, architecture, urbanization, Rio de Janeiro, Barra da TijucaAbstract
The paper approaches the urbanization of Barra da Tijuca through discursive elaborations of architecture professionals. Its threshold lies in landscape projects of real estate enterprises that shed light on networks of social relations and categories of thought of agents of the expansion of Rio de Janeiro towards its West Zone. Displaying centrality in the examined statements, the category “landscape” indicates disparate perspectives on public and private, and natural and built, in the basis of spatial transformations. As a result, this approach unveils the presence of conceptual conflicts in the city’s social dynamics of construction.Published
