This paper presents an empirical analysis of two experiences of ‘investigative work’ put into practice by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais in recent years to investigate homicide crimes. From fieldwork carried out in two specialized police stations, it was possible to understand how the police institution itself, in the daily life of what we call its “investigative work”, bypasses, reinterprets, tensions (and occasionally breaks) normative limits traditionally imposed, both on it and on its functions, by cultural, structural and institutional-legal dimensions.Downloads
