Abstract

Migration, work, and luck: a sociological analysis of rules and conduct in gold mines on the French-Brazilian border The objective is to analyze gold miners based on their insertion in the gold mining system, problematizing political, normative, economic, and social issues. Gold miners operate through knowledge shared through the gold extraction process, based on the transmission of practices, such as the native category of gossip, understood through its communicative and temporal agencies. The research used interviews, field diaries, and surveys of newspapers and magazines. This work analyzes the French-Brazilian border, using examples of family sociability and the creation of socially shared norms of conduct in the gold mines.
