Abstract

The Minister of Justice and Representations of Death: A Case of Anachronism Based on a photo that made headlines in late 2019, in which Sérgio Moro, Minister of Justice at the time, poses next to a sculpture made entirely of ammunition cartridges, this study proposes a reflection on the concepts of violence, suffering, and death in the present day. The conclusions point to the loss of stability generated by the weakening of religion in the early 20th century, aggravated in postmodernism. The process gave rise to a vulnerability to totalizing narratives that promise to reestablish order and seek purity at any cost. The study also concludes that there is a numbing of revulsion toward violence, which is consistent with the process of identification with death pointed out by Ariés (1974)
