Discrepancies Between Law and Practice in the Implementation of the Femicide Law: The Case of the São Paulo Civil Police This article aims to discuss how the São Paulo Civil Police has adapted, in institutional and organizational terms, to the implementation of the Femicide Law, and what barriers officers and police chiefs encounter in their daily work in ensuring the full implementation of the legislation. The results indicate that the act of classifying a woman’s violent death remains rooted in values and stereotypes that perpetuate gender inequality, such that professionals are reluctant to classify as femicide cases that do not result from lethal violence perpetrated by an intimate partner or family member.
