A “lei seca” eleitoral: Reflexões sobre cultura e controle na sociedade brasileira

A “lei seca” eleitoral consiste em uma norma jurídica do Estado para proibir a comercialização de bebidas alcoólicas em dias de procedimentos eleitorais. Sua existência se justifi caria pela preservação da segurança e da legitimidade das eleições. Este artigo realiza uma refl exão sociológica sobre essa norma, utilizando-se das perspectivas teóricas de Parsons e Gramsci, aliando-lhe debates subjacentes, no tocante à cultura política e à racionalidade do voto, assim como a tensão entre Estado e sociedade civil na produção da lei.
The election day “Dry Law” is a legal norm that forbids the sale of alcoholic beverages on election days in Brazil. Its justifi cation is the assurance of security and legitimacy of the elections. The article The election day “dry law”: Refl ections on culture and control in Brazilian society discusses this law in the light of the sociological theories of Parsons and Gramsci, tying it to debates regarding political culture and voting rationality, as well as on the tension between the State and civil society in the production of the law.
