Crime, Violence and Social Control as Cultural Products: New Perspectives for the Debate

Abstract

The article aims to provide new conceptual frameworks, capable of producing a new environment of debates in the Humanities area. The proposal is to revisit the concepts of crime, violence and social control to understand them as cultural products, which must be read from the meanings they carry. The article presents a review of bibliographic production around the innovations proposed by the cultural criminology, especially in England and the USA, in order to assist in the production and operation of analysis tools appropriate to the Brazilian context of debates on these subjects in the Brazilian academy.
