O cinema sobre a África, principalmente a subsaariana, é inicialmente, instrumento das políticas colonizadoras europeias para o continente africano e durou até o início das lutas anticolonialistas, que tiveram início nos anos 1950. Assim como Tarzan, outros filmes criados por cineastas europeus e americanos foram durante grande parte do século XX instrumentos para subalternizar o povo africano e justificar as políticas colonizadoras e imperialistas na África. Em Moçambique, o primeiro longa-metragem, Mueda, memória e massacre, de 1979, foi realizado pelo cineasta Ruy Guerra, e é um marco importante para o cinema do país. O presente trabalho tem por objeto fazer um estudo sobre o filme O jardim de outro homem, do cineasta moçambicano Sol de Carvalho, a partir do conceito de cinema pedagógico e da verificação do modo pelo qual o diretor organiza a ação dramática, a progressão narrativa, o suspense e o diálogo de personagens.
