Abstract

The article details the trajectory of the poetess Noémia de Sousa, highlighting her importance in the context of the anti-colonial struggle and the formation of Mozambican literature. Starting with her participation in the Casa dos Estudantes do Império in Portugal, the work explores how the poetess, even in an environment controlled by the Estado Novo, managed to catalyze a movement of resistance and inspire other African intellectuals. Her poems, characterized by orality and denunciation of colonial injustices, reflect the influence of various literary and political movements, such as Brazilian modernism and négritude. Noémia de Sousa stands out for her ability to rescue the voice and history of the African people, especially women, and her writing is seen as an expression of resistance, hope, and freedom. The analysis reveals her importance not only for Mozambican literature but also for Portuguese-language literature as a whole, serving as inspiration for many contemporary authors.
