This article aims at presenting a reading of the novel Parábola do cágado velho, written by the Angolan writer Pepetela, paying attention to certain historical factors that seem to build the base of the work, as well as to the ideology within the political and economic system that involves the country, thus approaching the political and ideological dimensions that were part of the literature held in Brazil in the 1930s.
