This paper analyses Jorge Barbosa’s literary project, a Cape Verdean poet who has actively engaged in the conception of Claridade magazine. According to Santos (2002), his multifaceted work may be classified into three main cycles: ‘pré-claridoso’ (1928-1935), ‘claridoso’ (1935-1959) and ’pós-claridoso’ (1959-1969). Taking these cycles into account, his poetic paths and different proposals are analysed, as well as the close liaison he has kept with that magazine and, consequently, with the Modernism’s literary project in Cape Verde.
