Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to submit proposals for themes for the special issue of our journal, Oecologia Australis, scheduled for December 2026. Please send us your thematic suggestions.
Oecologia Australis, established in 1995 under its original name Oecologia Brasiliensis, is an international, peer-reviewed journal that offers immediate open access to the public, operating under the belief that scientific knowledge should be freely disseminated. The journal supports the publication of national and international research in Ecology and related fields, targeting researchers, undergraduate, and graduate students. Since 2010, Oecologia Australis has been indexed in Scopus/Elsevier, SEER/IBICT, Scientific Commons, Dialnet, Latindex, Google Scholar, and, more recently, in Biological Abstracts, BIOSIS Previews, and Zoological Records databases. We are currently undergoing evaluation for indexing in the Web of Science Core Collection.
Each issue typically contains about 10 articles, with a maximum of 20. The organizers will serve as guest editors for the issue, with up to 3 guest editors per volume. Our team can assist you with the journal’s standards and website usage. For more information on manuscript submission, please refer to the “Author Guidelines” on our website: https://revistas.ufrj.br/index.php/oa.
Oecologia Australis publishes articles in Portuguese, English, and Spanish in the following formats:
Original Articles (up to 6,000 words): Present new results of ecological research, emphasizing concise and clear articles that describe significant ecological phenomena, hypothesis testing, development of new techniques, species lists, and novel approaches.
Short Communications (1,500 to 3,000 words): Report on specific or regional ecological findings with local application or theoretical and/or practical implications.
Reviews (up to 8,000 words): Synthesis works that set new reference standards in Ecology, offering critical and interpretative perspectives on a given topic. They should reflect the development of the subject, including relevant natural history, observational and experimental data, analyses, models, and theory.
Opinions (up to 1,500 words): Provide new insights and perspectives on current and controversial topics in Ecology, aiming to stimulate broad discussion among researchers in the field.
Our publication process involves a fee to cover publication costs, which is minimal. The charges for the special issue will be the same as for ABECO members (R$200.00 per article).
Our recent special issues include: “Garrafão: 22 Years of the Longest Small Mammal Monitoring Study in Brazil” (2023), “Limnology in Brazil: A Tribute to Prof. Francisco de Assis Esteves” (2022), “Methods for River Ecology Studies” (2021), “PELD: Long-Term Ecological Research in Brazil” (2020), “Ecology of Wetlands” (2019), “Survey, Ecology and Species Management in Protected Areas” (2019), and “Macroecology and Geographical Ecology” (2018). The 2024 special issue, focusing on ecological functions and ecosystem services in southern Brazil, will be released soon.
Interested parties should send an email with a summary of the proposal and potential editors to oecologiaaustralis@abeco.org.br.
We look forward to your proposals!
