The Atlantic Forest Biome in Southern Brazil: Ecosystem Functions and Services

Call for Submission for Special Issue

THE ATLANTIC FOREST BIOME IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL: ECOSYSTEM FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES

Dear Researchers,

We extend our warm invitation to submit manuscripts for the Special Issue of Oecologia Australis entitled "The Atlantic Forest Biome in South Brazil: Ecosystem Functions and Services" scheduled for release in 2024. The Atlantic Forest, recognized as a global biodiversity hotspot, remains the most degraded biome in Brazil. Nevertheless, it hosts remarkable and distinctive biodiversity while providing invaluable ecosystem services. Notably, in Southern Brazil, several near-pristine remnants of the Atlantic Forest stand as a testament to its resilience.

The conservation and restoration of the Atlantic Forest biome have become matters of paramount concern in the Brazilian political landscape, exemplified by the establishment of the 'Lei da Mata Atlântica - lei nº 11.428/2006', a national regulation dedicated explicitly to this biome. In light of these developments, we are organizing this special issue to assemble research conducted within this biome in South Brazil, covering various ecological fields, including ecotoxicology, biodiversity, and conservation. Our ultimate goal is to consolidate knowledge of the ecosystem functions and services of this critical hotspot.

Oecologia Australis (OA) serves as an international, peer-reviewed, and subscription-based Open Access Journal. It actively promotes ongoing international research and information exchange by publishing the latest research reports and breakthroughs in Ecology and related disciplines. OA welcomes original articles, opinions, scientific reviews, and short communications in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. For submission guidelines and additional information, please visit https://revistas.ufrj.br/index.php/oa/index.

Should you accept our invitation, we kindly request you to send a preliminary title for your manuscript and type of contribution (opinion, review, original article, short communication), along with its authors, and a brief description of the study's objectives to specialissue.atlanticforest@gmail.com by October 31st, 2023. The deadline for manuscript submissions is March 2024, and the special issue will be published in December 2024.

Thank you for your valuable contributions to the understanding and preservation of the Atlantic Forest biome.

Sincerely,
