Chironomidae (Diptera) populations in artificial lakes

Abstract

The main component of the sediment benthic macroinvertebrates are chironomid larvae. On the basis of larval populations characteristics in nine reservoirs, at São Carlos region (São Paulo State, Brazil), it was possible to distinguish four structures of domination and grouping them preliminarily in four habitat classes, each indicating particular environmental conditions.
