Abstract

POTENCIAL DISTRIBUTION OF ALYTES CISTERNASSI IN CONTINENTAL PORTUGAL:
CONCEPTUAL MODEL OF THE STRUCTURE OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION. Amphibians
and reptiles are animals ectodermal, reason by which the temperature is considered the most important variable,
overcoat at a meso-scale, to understand their distribution pattern. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
were developed for an integrated, providing users with information georeferenced multidisciplinary and
multiregional, how they themselves can create new information in view of their research demands. In this
study, we used a geographic information system to model the potential distribution of the sapo-parteiro-ibérico
in mainland Portugal, the available data in the literature on the important variables that determine and define,
suggestively, the ranges of real species. The results of our analysis of the model, even using limited data,
indicate that GIS is a useful tool for this purpose, as being more robust and reliable as the largest database of
interest.
